  • Facebook and Twitter announced new policies for how they plan to handle deepfake videos and falsified content. 
  • In an interview with CBS, the CEO of controversial facial recognition company, Clearview AI, argued that his company is allowed to scrape billions of social media profiles due to First Amendment rights. The scraped data is used to help police departments around the country identify individuals.
  • Senator Lindsay Graham will introduce a bill, the EARN IT Act, that purports to combat the online exploitation of children, but in reality works to end strong encryption practices. It would amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and give Attorney General William Barr the authority to shape “best practices” for tech companies.
  • Experian announced that 100% of the U.S. population has been assigned a Unique Patient Identifier.
  • The U.S. Army is looking to develop technology that utilizes biometric data in order to give soldiers the ability to classify and identify individuals, including through walls and ceilings.
  • The Iowa Caucus suffered from widespread chaos and confusion on Monday due to the Democratic Party’s introduction of a new smartphone app that malfunctioned when volunteers attempted to use it.
